Spirito! Coronavirus Update as of March 26, 2020
Dear Spirito! Singers and Families,
We thought it was time for another update regarding our schedule.
As you all know, the Governor has mandated that all schools remain closed through April 7, 2020. We understand that this situation is fluid and we will continue to closely monitor the situation to determine the best time to resume programming. It is our sincere hope that we can be back in rehearsals by Monday, April 13, 2020 (the day after Easter), but we will do whatever the Illinois Department of Public Health along with the CDC recommend for our area.
It is our intention to have a year end performance with repertoire that is determined performance ready. (If you would like to hear repertoire that is not performance ready, I’m sure our singers will be happy to accommodate. 😊) The location of this event and whether or not all ensembles can perform together at a concert will depend on the guidelines from the CDC. At this point, the Federal Center for Disease Control and Prevention has called for the cancelling or postponing of large gatherings through May 11th – a timeline that brings us within days of our May concerts. So, we will remain flexible! If we are able to have individual ensemble concerts which are small enough to meet CDC guidelines, we will do it! For now, just know that we will not give up on having our singers perform for you at year end unless it is deemed unsafe to do so.
In the meantime, we need to keep singing and learning.
Reminders to our ensembles:
BRAVURA: As you are already aware, you have audio tracks posted for three repertoire selections by voice part. CLICK HERE FOR BRAVURA
I hope you have been practicing daily as directed. 😊 Another repertoire selection will be posted later today so check back this evening.
BRAVURA SENIORS: I will be sending you via e-mail a senior song selection. Keep an eye out for this e-mail which will arrive over the weekend. I will be requesting that you learn it on your own. We will then schedule a “Zoom” rehearsal so we can work on it all together. Stay tuned!
RAGAZZE: There are multiple e-learning packets posted. CLICK HERE FOR RAGAZZE
As you are already aware, each packet has answer keys so parents can check work. Don’t forget to call me on my cell if you need help!
Don’t just trust the Answer Keys…. Make sure that if you have incorrect answers, you know WHY. Otherwise, you will not be learning…just treading water. We want your theory knowledge to continue to expand!
Men of Spirito!: I know that you have audio clips for all your songs. Please practice daily. Let’s be ready to hit the ground running once the shelter-in-place is lifted and we can safely return to rehearsals!
I miss you all very much but before I get too sappy, I will share some jokes with you. Jokes are a Spirito! tradition and there is no time like the present to keep traditions alive!
So here goes…
A boy asks his father, "Dad, are bugs good to eat?"
"That's disgusting. Don't talk about things like that over dinner," the dad replies.
After dinner the father asks, "Now, son, what did you want to ask me?"
"Oh, nothing," the boy says. "There was a bug in your soup, but now it’s gone."
Q: Why couldn't the leopard play hide and seek?
A: Because he was always spotted.
Q: What starts with E, ends with E, and has only 1 letter in it?
Thanks everyone. Please continue to keep the mission of Spirito! Singers at heart and support each other through this trying time.
Spirito! Coronavirus Update as of March 13, 2020
Dear Spirito! Singers and Families,
We are so disheartened about what is happening in our country and around the world with the COVID-19 virus. We along with all you share the anxiety and fears that have gripped our nation.
Most of you know that I am a rehearsal “fanatic” and it absolutely kills me to have to cancel our rehearsals and organizational commitments. At the same time, there are far worse things in life and we must keep our eye on our top priorities. Social distancing has proven to be the best way to “flatten the line” in regard to the virus. It does not stop the virus, but it slows down the spread so that our health facilities can take care of everyone properly. As good citizens we must do our part to assist with this goal.
To that end, Spirito! is going to do the following:
Cancel all rehearsals and events (including Service Sundays) effective, Friday, March 13, 2020 through Saturday, March 28, 2020.
It is our hope to resume rehearsals on Sunday, March 29th, 2020 beginning with our Bravura rehearsal that afternoon.
Ragazze Tour scheduled for April 18-19, 2020 has been cancelled.
We certainly hope to be back in rehearsals well before this tour date. However, it is more than likely that having a bus full of lovely middle school girls is still not going to be recommended by mid-April.
Plus, if we cancel now, we have a better chance of getting more dollars refunded from vendors.
All families who registered for tour, will be refunded.
We are going to temporarily suspend the sale of our spring concert tickets.
Tickets will not be going on sale to our families this coming week as originally planned.
We pray that this crisis will pass quickly, but there is no point in having you spend money on tickets until we have more information.
For donors who had access to early purchasing, please know that any dollars paid will be refunded to you if we are not able to hold our May concerts.
Since there are families who still have tickets to turn in, we have received permission to postpone our raffle drawing until April 6th.
It would be wonderful if those families who still owe us ticket sale dollars and ticket stubs, could kindly place them in the mail to our office.
Thanks so much!
To Parents of Bravura and Ragazze Singers: Please give your daughters a hug from them and tell them that I will miss them and that I hope to see them in a couple of weeks.
To our Men of Spirito!: Phil and I both send electronic hugs your way. Your Service Sunday scheduled for this Sunday is cancelled.
To our Board of Directors: Thank you for all your guidance during this extremely stressful time. Mary Jean and I are extremely grateful to you all.
Please do not hesitate to call us if you have any questions or concerns. The Spirito! office is not closing. Although we are encouraging staff to work remotely, we will continue our work. Mary Jean and I are both available via the office and our cell phones should you need either of us.
Thank you to all… stay safe….stay healthy…
And don’t forget to…
Dust off those monopoly games that have been buried in your closest and settle in for a nice long board game.
Read a good book.
Pop some popcorn and watch a great movie.
Check on your elderly neighbors.
Don’t forget to sing a little every day. It’s good for the soul.
Molly Lindberg, Mary Jean Adkins and the Spirito! Board of Directors
