Hello Spirito! Family,
On Wednesday, July 22, 2020, our seniors gathered to record their senior songs. When Illinois announced that it had entered Phase 4 and we were able to gather in groups over ten, our seniors and I found a date when everyone was available. We were lucky that our chosen date turned out to be a beautiful night since it was our intent to record outside. However, the cicadas had their own plans for that evening! They had their own chorus of sounds programmed and the competition between our senior singers and the powerful humming of cicadas proved daunting. We pivoted our plans, filmed our introduction outside and then moved inside to sing.
For the safety of our singers, masks had to be worn inside the house. In addition, we had to move quickly since it was important to keep their time, both in the house and standing close together, at a minimum. While I was disappointed that masks had to be worn which contributed to some muffling of the sound, I was overjoyed that these lovely young women FINALLY were able to sing their senior song. (They actually sang two songs!) And … in a way, it was probably the most authentic time capsule for these singers who had their senior year with all its traditions interrupted. However, none of them complained or were deterred. If masks were what it was going to take to get these songs recorded, so be it! So, they smiled and sang their hearts out.
I love these girls and their dedication to completing this treasured Spirito! tradition.
My thanks to Crystal Forbes for her accompanying and to Kenna Tolman, one of our Bravura singers for recording the event.
Congratulations My Dear Seniors!
Love,
Mrs. Lindberg
