Spotlight on: Bravura Seniors

(From Spirito! Newsletter Issue #4, 2009-2010)

As anyone who heard our seniors sing "The Climb" at the Spirito! Spring concert knows, these girls are an amazing group vocally.  What you may not realize is they are an amazing group of leaders and contributors to the Spirito! experience as well.  We would like to share with you some parting thoughts from these wonderful young women just to give you a small sampling of how special they truly are. Thank you and congratulations to all the Bravura seniors ... you will be missed!

Jacquee Kurdas: I have been in Spirito! for only one year, (and I really regret that I didn't do it longer!!).  Spirito! is a commitment to the fellow singers, and to the Spirito! mission.  Praising God and serving others through Spirito! has become a large part of who I am.  I cannot express how grateful I am for all of Spirito!, and how regretful I am for not being a part of it sooner.  I would like to thank Mrs. Lindberg for always loving each of us as her own.  I'd also like to tell the girls how much I will miss them next year!

Ally Lawrence: Being in Spirito! has changed my life in so many ways. I started singing with Mrs. Lindberg my sophomore year as a young singer but have learned and grown so much as a musician.  Spirito has brought me closer to my faith and has given me a different way of worshipping. Spirito! has also introduced me to such great and talented peers of all grades that I may have never known without Spirito! .  I have created bonds and memories with these girls that I will never forget. Spirito! has allowed me to become a leader and a follower as well as other skills that will help me next year in college. I just love Spirito! and can’t see how I would have gotten through high school without it! Although we all had our days at Spirito! when we wanted to pull out our hair, we all wouldn’t be the same person without it! I believe that I will cherish my experience with Spirito! for the rest of my life. I would like to attribute all of this to our wonderful director, Mrs. Lindberg,  There  aren’t enough words to describe the appreciation, love, and respect I have for her.

Colleen Luckey: After two years in Spirito!, I can't believe how much this group has grown. I am so proud to be associated with this wonderful group of girls. Being in Spirito! has not only helped me to grow as a musician, but as a person. My only hope is that I have been a positive influence to the group, and that every girl will keep that positive attitude in Spirito! alive. Girls - this has been the hardest year of my life for many reasons, and it is because of your prayers, your beautiful faces and your loving souls that this year took a turn for the better. And for that, I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Please love each other like sisters, because this group is a special kind of family that no one else could understand!

Maggie Murphy: I don’t think it is possible to pick one favorite memory of Spirito!. There have been so many amazing and honestly life changing memories that it is too hard to pick. I have learned, from getting to know all the Spirito! girls, that there are such amazing and beautiful people in this world. There is never a dull moment with these girls, even after 7 hour rehearsals. Also getting to work with Mrs. Lindberg has been an absolute honor and I thank her for not only teaching us so many aspects of music, but also being there for us every step of the way. She has also taught and showed us all how to inspire others and that is the most rewarding gift I have gotten out of Spirito!. I love you all forever and always!

Emily Spokas: Mrs. Lindberg has been such a large part of my life for the past 6 years. I remember getting a call from her when I was in 7th grade. She had seen me in an Elmhurst Children's Theatre show, and asked me to be in her new all girls high school spiritual choir at Mary Queen of Heaven. Church.  I had no idea who this lady was, but she seemed nice and managed to convince me (somehow...) to join the group. I am so happy I did because Spirito! has taught me so much about music, respect, and life. I know any and all success I have had musically since that phone call in 7th grade, can be attributed partially to Mrs. Lindberg and her wonderful organizations. Thank you so much, for teaching me to discipline myself and to never settle for anything but my very best. I love you!

Jenna Williams: I'll never forget our trip to Chicago last year girls, I still enjoy looking through the pictures and seeing all the memories we shared. Our impromptu concert at Millenium Park was my favorite part : ) Thank you all so much, I can't wait to come to the concerts next year. To you Mrs. Lindberg, thank you for an unforgettable four years. The music will stay with me forever.

Lydia Wolfe: I've seen Spirito! grow since I started singing with Mrs. Lindberg at Mary Queen of Heaven Church as a freshman.  My favorite part of Spirito! is how it bridges the "grade gap".  I've made so many valuable friends that I never would have met because they're younger than me, and I thank God for them every day.  The music and the girls in Spirito! have touched my life and helped me grow into a better person.  I'll never forget the memories I made, the music we praised with, the rigor that improved me as a musician or the lives we touched.
